Composer, producer, documentarist & sound alchemist Catharina Jaunviksna has been operating under the moniker of Badlands since 2011, under which she makes lush tracks from a wide palette of inspiration; stretching from post-punk, folk and shoegaze, to electro, dub and gritty techno working with analog electronics, sampling & organic orchestration. She’s the founder of the imprint and production company RITE; her platform for making transboundary arts and documentary, original music and sound design for film and theater, as well as production for and collaborations with other labels and artists. Jaunviksna started to explore analog midi and sampling as a teenager, finding a musical sanctuary in her own electronic compositions. Merging from music to sound design, she attended the sound design program at the reputable Film School of Denmark 2009-11, but became the schools first ever dropout due to her constant longing to make music. She then formed Badlands as a home for her new electroacoustic fusions and released EP Battles Within (2012) followed by a line of singles & album Locus (2016). EP Fantasma I + II (2020) marked a new era and in March 2021 acclaimed album Djinn was released. She returned with album Call to Love in 2022 for which she received several national awards and nominations. A remake edit Call to Love: Rendered released in 2023 featuring artists Art Feynman, Odd Nosdam, Ikonika, Cooly G, Jape, Lost Under Heaven, Johanna Knutsson & PAL.
