Robert-Orange is the New Black

Biography

Crafting and performing as Robert since 2019 and born and raised in multi-cultural West Bromwich, UK. Music became a saviour that tore him out of the street life that was giving way beneath him and planted his feet firmly on stable ground. Giving him a sense of purpose other than the ego-driven path he had learnt from those around him and allowing him expression through art, instead of violence, which at the time felt like the only option available. His sound resonates with influences from The Fall, Sonic Youth, Aldous Harding, Blur, Raekwon, PJ Harvey, John Parish, Lana Del Rey, Kool G Rap, Lee Hazelwood, FKA Twigs and Nirvana. He is no slave to a genre, and his style proves this, with a sound that cannot be pigeon- holed. In 2023, Robert started a band: ‘Robert & The Pills’, who showcase the bands version of Robert’s work and, whilst growing as a band both performance and crafting wise, perform songs from their own repertoire. An album is expected to be finished sometime in 2025. Robert’s work includes the critically acclaimed ‘Orange is the New Black’, which features Jason Williamson of Sleaford Mods, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Kool Keith, Slug of Atmosphere, Soweto Kinch and SonnyJim; and the first single ‘Trenches’, featuring Liam Bailey and John Parish, taken from the forthcoming EP due for release in 2025. This has been featured on BBC Radio 6 numerous times in its first 2 weeks of release.
