As his homeland is torn by war, Robert Šoko organizes his first modern Balkan music party in 1993, in an ironic celebration of the Yugoslavian Day of Youth on Tito’s birthday. His aim was to bring together again the young refugees of his country. He continued his parties in Berlin in the Mudd Club, in parallel to his taxi driving job, as they attracted a larger crowd. In 2000 he officially called his parties BalkanBeats, and thus also coined the term that is now used for the whole genre. In 2005, he released his first BalkanBeats compilation with Eastblok Music, which will become a reference in the Balkan Beats genre and be followed by four more compilations of the same name, all selected by Robert Šoko. That same year, and as his Berlin party continued to grow, Robert Šoko is launched as an international DJ. He was invited around the world in festivals and clubs, such as the Lowlands (2005), Colours of Ostrava (2008), Balkanology Cape Town (2009), Porto Musical Recife Brazil (2009), Sziget (2011), Sfinx Mixed (2012), Vive Latino (2013). In the next few years, Robert Šoko also established his monthly BalkanBeats parties in Paris, London and Budapest. In the meantime, his original BalkanBeats party in Berlin grew at the Lido Club.
