Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Anjali Asha has been writing music since she learned to hold a pen. Her diverse background is vividly captured through her sonic choices creating a style all her own with grit, vitality, and rhythms that captivate any crowd. Inspired by the likes of Amy Winehouse, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna and Harry Belafonte, her lyrics empower the inimitable outlook she has on the world. As a first generation in the United States, her Indo-Fijian and Mexican roots directly cultivated a profound love for reggae, Latin and dance music alike. Combining this with the surrounding Bay Area hip hop culture a versatile talent was created. Interning at her Dad’s record label exposed her to the casualties of the music industry at an early age. Witnessing all the mistakes young artists could make firsthand and how unforgiving the entertainment world could be, she struggled to find her footing until the age of 19. Anjali was in a car accident that left her face shattered, and after an entire summer of wires through her jaw, countless surgeries and a too close for comfort relationship with percocets Anjali dove head first into co-producing her debut album “Chingona” alongside her father. She’s worked tirelessly to make her story one of resilience rather than resentment, spreading a message of perseverance through the face of adversity and truly living up to her names translation, “A divine offering of hope”.
