Javier Negrín made his solo debut at the Wigmore Hall in 2004 playing works by Ravel and Jindřich Feld, and since then he has been performing both as a soloist and chamber musician in more than 25 countries. Born in the Canary Islands, he studied at the RCM in London with Yonty Solomon and later on privately with Howard Shelley. He has worked in recent years with Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Lawrence Leighton Smith, John Neschling, Yaron Traub, Claus Efland, Adrian Leaper, Edmon Colomer, Gregorio Gutiérrez and Roberto Montenegro, performing concertos by Beethoven, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Grieg, Scriabin, Bartók and De Falla. Recent performances include presentations in Havana, Mexico, and in various countries in Central America, Austria, Portugal, Italy and Spain, where he is also an honorary member of the Quantum Ensemble, with which he performs regularly. Javier’s records for Linn, IBS Classical, Navona and Odradek have been praised by the critics, especially his Odradek solo albums The Travel Preludes on Scriabin and Traces on Granados and Mompou: “Everything about his playing is poised and beautifully proportioned; textures are luminously clear, and he copes with Scriabin's subtle shifts of emphasis and texture very skilfully” (Andrew Clements, The Guardian); “he has a beautiful feel for the pacing of rubato, and in both Granados and Mompou lets the quietest, most reflective passages pull their weight to the most powerful effect” (Jessica Duchen, BBC Music Magazine).
