“Based on the game, I feel like being my true authentic self, not pretending be anybody and just telling my story is the best way to go.” Heir The Prophecy (Real Name Datray Adkins) has been representing West Los Angeles since freestyling in the hallways of Crenshaw High School as a teenager. Inspired by West Coast emcees including Kendrick Lamar, YG, Nipsey Hussle and Tyga alongside other nationally acclaimed artists like Kanye West, he wanted to tell true stories of his upbringing to trunk-rattling beats. Formulating his craft and collaborating with local artists, Heir The Prophecy eventually worked his way to performing as an opening act for his influences including Nipsey Hussle and YG. 2021 became a breakout year for Heir The Prophecy following the release of three projects - Bad Company, Resurgence Pack, and Immortal Hearts. His profile rose high enough locally for him to collaborate with storied West Coast engineer Omar Cortez, known for his work with Sadboy Loko, Lil B and Brand Nubian emcee SadatX. The creative union led to new creative peaks for Heir The Prophecy in 2022 through Resurgence Pack 2 and most recently, Star Power. Led by the titular single, it’s a reflection of knowing his worth without trying to follow trends. “The game is based on how viral you can go as opposed to how good the music is,” he said. “At the end of the day, I feel like good music is gonna sell no matter what. So I want to be tapped into the real and not become just a character.”
