Aaron Backshell, better known by his stage name AZZA, was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, and began creating music at the age of 14 in 2018. Wanting to try something new and different, he and his best friend Brandon Ford, also known as EMIDON, set out to achieve it. Starting off small, experimenting with his sound and delivery, he eventually found his niche. Taking inspiration from the New York Drill scene, and artists such as Kay Flock, Dougie B, Dthang, and Fivio Foreign. Additionally, he is also motivated by those around him in the Perth underground scene, making significant collaborations with CALZIE, Kayps, and That Kidd T3. Azza draws from these influences to create music that is upbeat, catchy and filled with energy. In his words, "having all three of those characteristics in a song is the best approach to attract a listener's attention.” Azza music has performed at prominent events in Perth, including Sweet Oblivion, 6KAOS, and DISMANTLE. Along the way, releasing popular singles, including DISLOCATED, UH HUH, and RUN IT. His second EP, ON THE INSIDE: ENERGIZED, was released as a result of all of this traction, culminating in a headline concert at The Sewing Room to celebrate.
