Biography

John Phillips is a DIY indie songwriter, singer and guitarist from Australia who has clocked up a long list of band memberships since the early 1970s. Not to be confused with The Mamas & the Papas! He has a comprehensive archive with history and information about all his music projects at www.johnphillips.com.au www.youtube.com/user/JohnPhillipsAust John has founded and fronted bands like Urban Principle, Pipelines, Raw Deal and others that supported a diverse stream of iconic Australian acts from INXS, Men at Work, Midnight Oil, Flowers, Mi-Sex, Divinyls, Cold Chisel to AC/DC, The Angels, Hush, The Dingoes, Kevin Borich, Rose Tattoo, Paul Kelly, Mental as Anything, Radio Birdman and Nick Cave in The Boys Next Door. He has been releasing material and honing his musicianship a trail of bands that also included early Goanna and 80's new wave post-punk electronica band Kikx. John's been an indie filmmaker since the 80’s and is involved with a Blues and Roots side project with Sons Of The Blues since 2011 performing live with Patrick Byrne and Jerry Speiser (Men at Work). John’s daughter, Nadia Phillips is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and recording artist in her own right with a growing profile. She accompanies him sometimes when recording his songs.
