Biography

Stan Van Samang is a chart-topping Flemish singer and actor, who made his number one hit single debut in 2007. Born on March 19, 1979, in Wijgmaal, near Leuven, the capital of Flemish Brabant, he debuted as a television actor. He acted in television series initially and later advanced to movies. As a singer, Van Samang established himself in 2006 on the television show Steracteur Sterartiest. He won the show's competition and was awarded a recording contract with EMI. Van Samang made his debut in 2007 with "Scars," a number one smash hit on the singles chart. The full-length album Welcome Home followed later in the year. A number three hit on the albums chart, it included the Top 20 hit singles "Poison" and "Siren." Van Samang's second album, 2009's Take It from Me, was similarly popular. It reached the Top Five of the albums chart and spawned the hit singles "This Time" and "I Didn't Know." Van Samang spent much of the early 2010s focusing on his acting, but he continued to record as well. The year 2011 brought a Top Ten album, King in My Head, as well as another titled Stan Friday. His appearance on a musical program brought his next success. The show, Liefde voor Publiek, allowed singers to perform each other's songs, and his appearance was so well-received that his accompanying album, Liefde voor Publiek, became a number one hit and the best-selling Flemish album of 2015. One year later, the self-titled Stan Van Samang also hit number one on the Flemish charts. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
