Count Bass D, born Dwight Conroy Farrell, is a highly respected figure in hip-hop, celebrated for his unmatched creativity and musical versatility. Born in the Bronx during Hip Hop’s infancy, he was deeply influenced by the musical culture of his father’s church and early experiences with piano, drums, and bass guitar. Combining music theory with a love for sampling, Count Bass D has created a unique sound that bridges what he calls "traditional beatmaking" with innovative storytelling. Since his debut album, Pre-Life Crisis (1995), Count Bass D has continually pushed the boundaries of what Hip Hop can be. His journey from major-label artist to “individual recording artist” demonstrates a determination to stay true to his craft. After decades of collaborations (e.g. MF DOOM, Snoop Dogg) and international tours, he has solidified his legacy as a producer, lyricist, and performer. Known for vinyl digging and sampling to create musical collages, Count Bass D’s sound honors the roots of Hip Hop while exploring new territory. He hopes to inspire younger generations by sharing his knowledge and technical skills in Hip Hop music production. His motto, “Never underestimate the benefits of staying true to the game,” reflects his unwavering dedication to his craft and his audience. His signature blend of sampling, live instrumentation, and introspective lyrics, continues to inspire and entertain, proving that staying true to oneself is the ultimate measure of success.
