Biography

David Last made music and visual art starting in Brooklyn in the 90s and 00s, with its underground downtempo, experimental and dance music worlds, as well as realtime video art and installation. He was a founding member of Devotion Gallery. His music was released by funny people in the U.S., Japan & Germany. He enjoyed most, playing at friends’ house parties and small club nights in venues like the historic venue SubTonic. He did some art stuff and lots of tiny weird little gigs and installations (art bought and shown by/in Met, MoMA, New York Film Festival, Devotion Gallery, and a soundtrack for a cavern in Shikoku among others). He made handmade art books, hand-painted sneakers and clothing. He worked with D Numbers on Meow Wolf’s first major installation in Santa Fe, the House of Eternal Return, as 1/4 of the music and sound design team. He has continued to contribute audio to their installations. He has done much remix, soundtrack and sound design work including a childrens’ IMAX film about talking molecules exploring the cosmos in a UFO (Molecules to the Max). He lived in San Francisco for a few years, working with his partner Cherushii on a number of projects before largely retiring from music in 2018. He currently lives in a cupboard with a rabbit and some synthesizers. He continues to make artwork professionally, and create music for fun. He writes about himself in the 3rd person for his Spotify bio.
