An accomplished composer of both sacred and secular music, Massaino was also a writer and arranger of lute music. The genres in which he composed included masses, motets, madrigals, psalms, vespers, magnificats, and canzonas for the lute. He traveled from Cremona, the city of his birth after serving as the master of the chapel at Salo Cathedral. He also lived and served at Innsbruck, Salzburg, Prague, Lodi and Piacenza.
