The ambiance is soft, delicate yet full of potential. This is the world of Bassette, who makes R&B at its most omnipotent. Born in Bermuda, Bassette’s career has been built upon a compelling bedrock of twists and turns. Her family relocated to Scotland, a world away from the big, colourful houses of Bermuda and the generations of her family who continue to live on the island. It’s here – among the frozen moorlands of the UK’s northernmost country – that she first shared her voice. She was first introduced to the wider world of music through a collaboration with soulful electronic DJ Joe Hertz. The frankly huge “Playing For You” is a warm fusion of nostalgic R&B and deep electronica, all underpinned by Bassette’s commanding vocal – evident of her ability to navigate between genres while also retaining a strong, recognisable presence. With her future ahead of her, Bassette is now in a place where she can focus in on lining herself up with those R&B talents of yore.
