Biography

A Canadian Americana combo out of Winnipeg, Nathan have an intriguing and eccentric sound that is part country, part wild Gypsy music, and part rootsy pop with a healthy dose of Tom Waits-styled everything-but-the-kitchen-sink production thrown in, all led by the gorgeous harmonies of guitarist Keri Latimer (formerly Keri McTighe) and Shelley Marshall (banjo, guitar, and killer accordion), with a solid and versatile rhythm section of Devin Latimer on bass and Damon Mitchell on drums. The group's roots go back to 1995 when McTighe joined Christine Fellows in Special Fancy, eventually bringing Marshall over from her work with Hugo Torres' band. Special Fancy split shortly after Marshall joined, however, but McTighe and Marshall continued to work together, officially forming Nathan in 1999. The band released Stranger in 2001, followed by the critically acclaimed Jimson Weed in 2004 and the impressive Key Principles, which was produced by Howard Redekopp, in 2007. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
