Award winning pianist/composer Jan Geijtenbeek (1988) was born in The Netherlands. He is inspired by pianist such as Ahmad Jamal, Oscar Peterson and Keith Jarrett. But also songwriters such as Paul Simon, Bob Dylan and James Taylor have had a huge impact on his musical vocabulary. Over the years Jan has developed a unique way of writing and playing that incorporate all these influences. The result is lighthearted music with a strong melodic character and an original approach to harmony. Press about Jan: “Striking is Geijtenbeeks thought through sound-spectrum and lyricism. The well balanced compositions give his melody’s enough space to breathe and develop and there’s a lot of attention to detail. Musical story’s in the middle and upper range are harmonically united with creative bass-lines or changed into a groove with ease. – Jazzenzo “... a delightful jazz record. Honest too, by which I mean that it’s unadorned, open-hearted, confident, freely and most of all playful. The music is tight and funky, but also lively and lighthearted and carefully dosed in the ballads, like ‘Lifetime’ and ‘Traveling Light’, which have an almost cinematic character” – Jazzflits
