Biography

“Even if the word surely wasn’t invented for a Baroque artist: his performance had verve!” (Göttinger Tabenblatt) At a young age Nathaniel was entranced by the unique sound of the harpsichord: starting his education with Richard Lester in Cirencester, in 2007 he entered London's Royal Academy of Music, studying with Carole Cerasi, and later in Paris and Italy with Elisabeth Joyé, Skip Sempe and Pierre Hantai. Prizes include the 2010 Fention House Early Keyboard Ensemble Competition (1st), 10th Broadwood Harpsichord Competition (1st), the Gianni Gambi Harpsichord Competition in Pesaro (2nd), accompanist's prize for the John Kerr Award at Finchcocks, and the Harold Samuel Bach Solo Keyboard Prize. Nathaniel is devoted to authentic harpsichord touch and artistic creativity: he has a strong reputation as a Mozart interpreter and of 18th century French harpsichordists. His debut album, 'The 18th Century French Salon', was released in 2015. He has filmed music videos with award-winning director, David Percy and also recorded J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations for ICSM Records. A respected teacher, Nathaniel held the Linda Hill Junior Fellowship at the Royal College of Music for two years running. He gives masterclasses throughout the UK and is passionate about inspiring the next generation. http://www.nathanielmander.com
