Music from the Sole is a NYC-based tap dance company and live music ensemble that merges Afro-Brazilian rhythms and music with the great American tap tradition. The unique challenge in releasing the company’s debut self-titled album has been in translating what was created as a live band and tap dance show, into an audio-only experience. Blending all of the jazz, hip hop, and psychedelic roots of composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist Gregory Richardson with the afro-Brazilian background of choreographer and tap dancer Leonardo Sandoval, the band includes drummer Josh Davis, pianist and keyboardists Noé Kains, Cuban saxophonist José Cruzata Revé, and bassist Jennifer Vincent. The first single, Samba do Sol, presents the original composition from the live show, while attempting to reinterpret and highlight the more visual elements of tap dance and body percussion.
