West African drummer and vocalist @bongosidibe adds to the infectious fire The Dogon Lights is a collaborative Intersection of “West Africa meets West Oakland,” a combination of hip hop, rap and funk played with African instruments. The band consists of drummer Garry Norris, rapper and singer AshEL SeaSunZ, bass player and multi-instrumentalist Vir Mccoy (Hamsa Lila), and Evan Fraser (also in Dirtwire) who drives the music with the distinctive kamale-ngoni; a harp-like instrument originating in Mali. Long time -part time member Bongo Sidibe sings on the track Barakele. This makes for a unique amalgamation of music, as witnessed by anyone who has seen the Dogon Lights live.
