Biography

Pretty Heavy: Daniel Santrella and Tyler Ryssemus, longtime friends, each with a history of successful indie rock outfits (Audiences/Bow&Spear) are still peeling the plastic off their first-ever collaboration as they venture into a new genre. How To Feel. Originally written on guitar, speaking to Daniel, “When I brought the bones of this song to Tyler, I didn’t know what he’d make of it. He’d always heard me play pretty sparkly guitar parts, and I’d always listened to him slam heavy, distorted rhythms...” (Hence the name, Pretty Heavy) “…but his ear for synths and the ease in which he can translate something as complex as the original riff to the keys gave us a completely new musical atmosphere to play with.” One with lush sounds, and pop-centric rhythms, melodies that bite, and undertones that swell and vibrate. **Does midnight make her anxious, or will she have patience when the money’s gone?** While their debut single How to Feel has outright overtures of finding fresh romance and the hesitation that precedes letting something new into your world, Daniel ventures to say that while this is, no doubt, a song about relationships, “We have *relationships* with everything, work, school, that new cushy couch. I wrote this song after leaving a long-time gig with an incredible amount of responsibility, and I truly -did not know- how to feel about any of the other opportunities surrounding me immediately following that ‘break-up’-so-to-speak”.
