Biography

Ara Tokatlian is an internationally acclaimed woodwind player that founded the jazz-rock band Arco Iris in 1969, along with Gustavo Santaolalla and Guillermo Bordarampe. Together they created a very unique style of music that blends rock, jazz, and South American folklore, which can be heard in more than 25 albums released in Argentina, the United States, and the rest of the world. After the departure of Gustavo and Guillermo from the group, and the passing of their spiritual guide Danais Wynnycka, Ara has been the frontman and main composer of Arco Iris. His exuberant sound on tenor and soprano saxophones, along with the magical melodies on flutes and pan pipes, also have contributed to the artistry of musicians like Harry Belafonte, Enrique “Mono” Villegas, Olivia Newton-John, Milcho Leviev, Peter Kater, and The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, to just name a few. From his recording studio Danara, located deep in the woods of Blue Jay, California, Ara Tokatlian continues producing new albums that further extend his 50 year long artistic career.
