The Hawaiian Tribute to Rascal Flatts

Biography

b. 17 July 1944, Washington, DC, USA. Raised in southern California, guitarist/vocalist Cunha was a founder member of Hearts And Flowers, a pivotal mid-60s US country/folk trio. He appeared on their debut album, but was replaced by Bernie Leadon for Of Horses, Kids And Forgotten Women. Cunha subsequently enjoyed a spell as host at the famed Los Angeles Troubador Club, before spending several years touring with guitarist Mason Williams. During the 70s the artist made several session appearances, notably on John Stewart’s The Lonesome Picker Rides Again, before recording the exemplary Songs, a superior selection of country-influenced material. Cunha also enjoyed a fruitful association with Emmylou Harris, contributing to Pieces Of The Sky (1975), Elite Hotel (1976) and Luxury Liner (1977). A recording contract with CBS Records ensued, but the label failed to release the resultant album, which latterly appeared on an independent outlet, Sierra, as Moving Pictures. The delay sadly undermined the career of this impressive musician who nonetheless retains the respect of his peers.
