Biography

b. 11 March 1914, London, England, d. 20 April 1976, London, England. Blind from birth, Krahmer taught himself to play drums and in his early twenties became a professional musician, playing first in an all-blind band. Teaming up with George Shearing, the blind pianist, Krahmer made his first records in 1939 and in the early 40s recorded with Johnny Claes’ band. During the early 40s he was frequently heard playing in London clubs and he was also active as a teacher. In 1947/8 he formed Esquire Records, a label for which he also made some records. Later in his career, Krahmer was mostly active as a recording company executive, for Esquire, Delmark Records, and others, but continued to occasionally play drums.
