Biography

Cali Life Style (CLS), originating from Santa Maria, California, emerged in 1992 as a pioneering force in Chicano rap. Founded by T-Dre (Terry Yap) and Delux (Dominic Marciano), the group became a voice for Southern California’s 805-area Chicano youth, blending raw lyrics with electro-funk samples. Their debut album, The Mexican Invasion (1995), featuring the underground hit “Lost,” garnered airplay across the U.S., Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Its dark synth rap and authentic representation of Central California’s Chicano culture set CLS apart from their peers. “Lost” remains a fan favorite, consistently driving engagement and streams decades later. Subsequent albums Tell It Like It Is (1999) and Sun Up 2 Sun Down (2001) initially flew under the radar but are now hailed for their creative use of 80s electro-funk and significant contributions to West Coast rap. Today, CLS boasts over 160 million streams and approximately 778,700 monthly Spotify listeners, with tracks like “Lost” and “Coastin’” resonating worldwide. Through their partnership with Silent Giant Entertainment, led by Edward “E-Dub” Rios, CLS continues to release new music and videos, connecting with loyal fans and a new generation. With their authentic portrayal of Chicano culture and innovative sound, Cali Life Style remains an enduring influence in West Coast rap.
