Biography

CRISTIAN ZÁRATE Pianist, composer, arranger and producer, born in Buenos Aires in 1975. Latin Grammy Winner in 2019 with Astor Piazzolla Quintet. Since an early age he has participated in many tango orchestras, as well as sharing music projects and recording with: Antonio Agri, Osvaldo Berlingieri, Fernando Suárez Paz, Jairo, Enrique Morente, Nahuel Pennisi, Antonio Carmona, Marcelo Nisinman, Leonardo Sánchez, Ernesto Snajer, Orquesta del Tango de Buenos Aires, Orquesta Color Tango, Juan José Mosalini, Daniel “Pipi” Piazzolla, Julián Plaza, Néstor Marconi, Walter Ríos, Victor Lavallén, among others. As a solo pianist he took part in the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, Real Filharmonía de Galicia, Orquesta Filarmónica de Mendoza and Orquesta Estable del Teatro Colón, in a concert in honor of the legendary pianist Horacio Salgán. He performed at the “Piano City Milano Festival” and at La Fenice Theatre (Venice, Italy) together with the guitarist Leonardo Sánchez. He made some performances in Greece with the Opera “María de Buenos Aires” composed by Astor Piazzolla and Horacio Ferrer; this opera being also directed by him while touring around Argentina. In 2013 he was invited to perform at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts on occasion of the “25th Anniversary of Midsummer Night Swing Festival” sharing the stage with the famous trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz Lincoln Center Orchestra.
