Salome Bey - singer, actress, composer, activist, and writer is an extrordinary entertainer. She was born and raised in Newark, NJ. She began her career with her brother Andy and her sister Gerry as Andy and The Bey Sisters. The group released 3 albums and a number of 45 singles. During this time, Salome performed in jazz clubs across North America and Europe. In 1964, she fell in love with her husband Howard Matthews at one of her stops on tour in Toronto, couple years later she moved and made Toronto her home. Salome quickly established herself as a jazz and blues singerin the local clubs and on raidio and TV. She went onto making name for herself in Theater and was the recipient of an Obie Award for her work in the musical Love Me, Love My Children, she also earned a Dora Mavor Moore honor for her play Indigo and also co-starred in Grammy Nominated "Your Arms Too Short to Box With God". She built a strong relationship with iconic composer Galt MacDermot (Hair), where she released the album "Salome Bey Sings Songs From Dude". Salome also released her self-titled album and legendary live album "In Montreux" and her last album was I Like Your Company. Salome was a trailblazer in Canada and has been given the title "The First Lady of the Blues". She worked with hundreds of young people nurturing their talents. Her contributions to the Canadian fabric of arts is immaculate and will forever leave mark on souls of many.
