Formerly known as "Nicotin one," he recorded his first singles in a small studio in Moers - Germany. The name change to "Mr. Nico" and his musical influence from reggae and dancehall trace back to a longstanding friendship with the Kenyan musician Big Brayne and his crew from the notorious Essen Altendorf, known as a "problem district."
