NERTI

Nerti II (Live)

Biography

In Lora Kmieliauskaitė's 1st solo album NERTI the field recordings made in the Norwegian archipelagos during the polar night unfold in mutuality with the vocal improvisations. The violin here doesn’t resemble the classical manner of performance: at times it’s sinuous, following microtonal Iranian intonations in dialogue with Iranian folk musicians playing qayckack and tamburag; at other times, it’s slow and cold, echoing the flow of water and undulating along the rhythms of homemade instruments. Diving into unfamiliar places, Lora narrates musical journeys through collaborations and friendships, in search of things that cannot be written down on a music sheet. "We all approach inner peace in our own ways; this album, I believe, will allow one to grasp a bit of the search for this deeper dive", says Lora. Lora Kmieliauskaitė is a Lithuanian violinist and an active participant in various fields of music, theatre and film production. The field of her musical activities spans many genres including experimental, and contemporary music. Lora's performances often include fusions of different media, movements, and theatre. The musician has developed a reputation as a unique and adventurous artist exploring creative collaborations and further expanding her performative research. She is also co-founder and performer in the contemporary music ensemble Twenty Fingers Duo.
