Biography

His unique approach to tango and other forms of Argentine popular music, from a distinctly jazz aesthetic, has earned him great recognition both in Argentina and abroad. Nominated for the LATIN GRAMMY awards four times for his albums: “Las tardecitas de Minton’s” (2000), “Tango Reflections (2002)”, “Las cosas tienen movimiento” (2003), and “La Casa de un pianista de jazz” (2018). He received the Clarín Award for Best Jazz Musician of the Year (2002), and Konex Award (2005) for his artistic work during the period 1995-2005. The prestigious American magazine Down Beat chose him as one of the rising talents in its 2003 critics' poll. He has given more than 300 concerts around the world, including notable solo piano nights at Lincoln Center in New York, the jazz festivals in San Sebastián, Madrid, and Barcelona, the World Music Festival in Oslo, the Vancouver Fest, his concert at the Metropolitan Opera in Tel Aviv. In 2008, he was Artistic Director of the Buenos Aires International Jazz Festival until 2020. He also served as the Artistic Director of La Usina del Arte between 2016 and 2021. He has composed music for several films in Argentina. In September 2022, he performed with his project “Colegiales Trío” and the National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro Gustavo Fontana, at the National Auditorium of the CCK More recently, he was commissioned by the Teatro Colón to produce a tribute for the 50th anniversary of the release of “Artaud” by Luis Alberto Spinetta.
