This dream has been many years in the making for Canadian recording artist Flash Milla. His passion for music began at a young age. In Grade 5, after hearing his friend recite a rap, Milla volunteered to write a song for the school Christmas concert – having never written one before. At only age 13, Milla had the opportunity, courtesy of his older cousin Jigs, to lay down tracks in Toronto’s CMP Studios, well known in the mid-2000s for being home to some of the city’s most celebrated street lyricists. While the trap lifestyle may be his focus, he’s framing it in a way that will touch everyone. “It’s emotions, and everyone can relate to emotions.” Moments of vulnerability, amid the banging beats, and catchy hooks, take listeners beyond the flashy lifestyle that inspired Milla’s stage name. After facing multiple setbacks – the types of betrayals and pitfalls all too common in street life – it took a month-long trip to Costa Rica for Milla to reconnect with his passion and re-focus his energy on the future. That raw confidence and determination from his elementary school days emerged once again. He’s not waiting on anything, or anyone. His time is now. “I feel like waiting is what always messed me up; I always wanted everything to be perfect. Perfect is whatever you make it. You define what is perfect. I had to learn that the hard way.”
