DJ Killa-Jewel’s official debut, Reckless, is a four-song EP that combines nostalgic melodies of the classic boom bap hip hop era with the dry, bassy, 808 rhythms and sounds of mainstream cloud rap. It’s hooky, cool and edgy, a world-class release from a globally-recognized Canadian turntablist. “My fanbase stems from my years as a hip hop scratch DJ in a sample-based music world. Now I have a more new-school approach to beat-making, taking my production a step further by creating completely original melodies using heavy bass lines and electronic synths,” says the popular Montreal-based DJ, producer, musician, singer and songwriter. Studying classical piano for a decade and making turntablism her full-time career since the late nineties, DJ Killa-Jewel’s sets developed into her current forté, party-rocking old-school and underground hip hop, combined with elaborate scratching techniques. Her mastery of the art-form led to working with Mix Master Mike and DJ Q-Bert; battling in competitions for DMC, ITF, Vestax and Red Bull, and touring the world for eight years with actor/director Robert Lepage composing turntable music for his shows. Reckless is DJ Killa-Jewel's first wholly original EP. “I'm not holding anything back with this record,” she says, “It’s how I am on stage too. I put it all out there.”
