Biography

Charles Knox has written well over a hundred musical compositions for a variety of performing forces, from traditional genres to unusual groups such as bassoon choir and a viola and percussion duo. He has frequently composed music for chamber, choral, and brass ensemble, and a number of his compositions have been made available on commercial recordings, such as Clouds Are Not Spheres (1997, Albany Records) and Chamber Music of Charles Knox (2000, ACA Digital). Knox received the B.F.A. in music from the University of Georgia where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He studied composition with Bernhard Heiden at Indiana University where he received M.Mus. and Ph.D. degrees. He is Professor Emeritus of Music at Georgia State University in Atlanta, where he was a member of the faculty for 30 years. Knox was the recipient of the 2001 Mayor's Fellowship in the Arts (Award in Music) from the City of Atlanta, Georgia (USA). He is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers; the American Composers Forum; the Society of Composers, Inc.; and the American Music Center.
