Based in Southern Maine and part of a long legacy of performers that goes back to 2000, the Grassholes feature Heather Kahill on fiddle, Merrill Marsh and Sam Pfeifle on guitars, Flann O’Brien on the stand-up bass, and Field Rider on Banjo and harmonica. Everybody sings a bit here and there, whether you like it or not. Their brand-new recent single, "Sad Song Medley" is a follow up to the full-length "Gently Used," released in April of 2023, and continues a relationship with world-renowned producer Jonathan Wyman (Pretty Reckless, Ray LaMontagne, Rustic Overtones), and is a partner to the widely appreciated "South Congress" from 2020. Recorded in a single day, with no overdubs or punch ins, it's a raw and warm sound that replicates the live experience so many have come to love. From racing fiddle tunes and old-time Monroe classics to thoughtful originals, Dead jams and ballads, the Grassholes borrow and steal from the best of them, with unique arrangements of traditional works – sometimes even a song written in the current century. It might be hard to listen without a porch swing or a glass of lemonade or a sundress that clings to the front of your legs, but you’ll just have to give it a try.
