Biography

Charley Rose claims to stand at the crossroads of rock, free jazz, and jazz music. He is also a great enthusiast of 20th-century music (Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Ligeti...). These interests led him to create the Larchey Zore Quartet, an experimental group that grapples with extreme forms of music. In 2016, he founded the Charley Rose Trio alongside Enzo Carniel and Ariel Tessier. Their first album was released under the Déluge label in 2018, and a second one will be released on the Menace label in June 2023. They are winners of the Jazz Migration #7 and toured many festivals in France and Europe in 2022. Since 2018, he has been a part of the sextet of a French icon of contemporary jazz piano: Benoît Delbecq and the Multiplexers. He is also the co-leader of the Perceptions Trio, in which he experiments with effect pedals to introduce an element of randomness as an additional parameter for improvisation. The album is slated for release the 14th of February 2025 on Sense. His solo work, "Résonance de la sensation," focuses on the relationship between painting and music and is inspired by Gilles Deleuze's work "Logique de la Sensation," which discusses the paintings of Francis Bacon. It will be released at the end of 2024. Charley Rose has performed at numerous festivals around the world, on four continents, both as a leader and as a sideman.
