Born in Manaus at the heart of the Amazon, to a West Indian father and a Brazilian mother, the singer and songwriter Julia Manikk started her career in 2019 and since then has released independently five singles: Addiction, Ashes, Nostalgia, Holy Water and the promotional single “Desce e Não Para”, a promising bilingual EDM song featuring the Albanian DJ Erd1. “During the pandemic, my kind of introspection was imagining myself in places I wanted to be or doing things I wanted to do, but couldn’t. I would spend a lot of time daydreaming and trying to escape to these places in my imagination to forget a little bit about the time we were living. This inspired me a lot in the songwriting of the songs of my new era, including “Desce e Não Para”, which is a song made to dance and break free. Along with a colorful-breathtaking music video, showing the artist's versatility, talent, and style, Julia’s latest release is scheduled for November 5th. The highlight of the song "OOH LA LA!" goes to the beat that takes us right back to the 2000s, with young people who enjoyed the chaotic auditorium shows, the eccentric looks, and catchy lyrics of songs that built an epic era. Julia also uses irony and sarcasm to joke about being a Brazilian girl singing in English, to criticize and make people think about the objectification of Latin women in the music market.
