Described as "an immaculate accompanist" (BBC Music magazine) Andrew Matthews-Owen performs regularly as a collaborative pianist, working with many internationally renowned singers on the concert platform and on commercial recordings, covering a breadth of repertoire from music of the classical period to scores by composers of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. In recent seasons Andrew has appeared with Patricia Bardon, Susan Bickley, Claire Booth, Susan Bullock, Lucy Crowe, Anne Sophie Duprels, Rebecca Evans, Natalya Romaniw, Nicky Spence and Sir Willard White, at venues including the Southbank Centre and Wigmore Hall. He has also appeared with French horn player Richard Watkins, percussionist Joby Burgess and the Brodowski and Allegri String Quartets. Recognised as a passionate advocate for contemporary music, Andrew has given first performances of new works by composers including Michael Berkeley, Charlotte Bray, Laurence Crane, Jonathan Dove, Alun Hoddinott, Simon Holt, Hannah Kendall, Joseph Phibbs, Arlene Sierra and Augusta Read Thomas. Acclaimed recordings for the Naxos, Nimbus, NMC and BMS labels are frequently broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. Studied at the Royal Academy of Music, where he was recently elected an Associate, and is currently on the professorial staff at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music in London for collaborative piano and chamber music.
