Los Angeles-based musician Devin Sarno, whose principal instrument is electric bass, began CRIB in the early '90s as an experimental solo side project outside of his main band at the time: Waldo The Dog Faced Boy. His initial focus with CRIB was on loud, experimental feedback approaches influenced by such notables on the noise scene as Merzbow and Masonna, which informed his initial series of singles, cassettes, and compilation appearances. He could also be found working with a variety of LA-based groups and performers, turning up on albums by Slug and that dog. as well as in duet collaborations with the likes of Nels Cline (of Wilco). The official CRIB debut, "She is Church", was released in 1998 (WIN Records) giving him the chance to explore his approaches at length. The second Crib full length "Forward Back" (WIN Records) was released in 2000 and "Remnant" (True Classical CDs) followed in 2002. Sarno eventually retired the CRIB moniker and took a more reflective, quietly intense turn with his work, which is reminiscent of artists such as: Thomas Köner, Arvo Pärt and Stars Of The Lid. Sarno continues to record and perform both solo and in various collaborative projects.
