From Detroit, Michigan, Chris James has been singing since the young age of 7 years old. His passion for music and songwriting began from watching his father play bass guitar, and hearing stories of his musicianship growing up. His love of gospel and R&B sound and lyricism grew as he continued his role in the church choir through high school. At the completion of his high school career, Chris James then spent 2 years of vocal training with Antea Shelton. His journey as an independent professional artist, began at the start of his college career at Bowling Green State University. 
 In 2016, Chris James released his first song, “Let Me In.” This was later followed by a short hiatus from creating music to rediscover his passion and love for his craft. Re-emerging in 2018 with three singles, the artist then took a break from recording to focus on the next phase of his career. In 2020, Chris James had rebranded to Official Chris James, and dropped his first EP titled “Imperfect.” His motivation for this EP came just after going through a major depression in 2019, that stole his love of music. Chris took a year to reconnect with music, and the memories of his late father, Christopher Chamblis Jr., who inspired his journey as an artist. In September of 2020, Keep It Official Entertainment LLC. was founded, and in October 2020 his hit single “Cuffing Season” was released, which received public recognition from R&B Legend Tank.
