Raised on a diet of 1970s Afrobeat, Jùjú music & genre-defying Black American pop, Ruoho's music draws upon the visceral aesthetics of dub, techno, garage & impractical melodic leitmotifs from experimental electro-acoustics, fusing them into imaginative new exhilarations, sometimes 4-on-the-floor, other times Avant-dubwise or ambient. His music has been described by some as “vaporous”, “aching and expansive” & “a wicked dub abstraction”. Ruoho won an international BBC Radio 1 remix competition, reshaping Steve Reich's seminal piece “Music for 18 Musicians” & has released 12" vinyl records on numerous boutique labels like Unfulfillment (Montréal), Zero G Sounds (Boston), Thoughtless Music (Toronto), de'fchild productions (San Francisco), Adjunct Digital (Los Angeles), Skor Records (Los Angeles), Auralism (San Francisco) & Creaked Records (Switzerland). He has performed live at the Winter Music Conference (Miami), Decibel Festival (Seattle) as well as numerous underground venues across North America. Listening to Ruoho Ruotsi's inter-wreathed sonic deployments, may the journey will continue to be the reward.
