Juan Laya, also known as Los Charly's Orchestra (LCO), was born in Caracas-Venezuela, into a highly musical family. His mother, an avid vinyl collector, exposed him to a variety of genres from a young age, from Latin, rare groove, funk, disco, and jazz, all of which influenced his later sounds. He has collaborated with many producers, DJs and artists such as Dave Lee, Opolopo, Jorge Spiteri, John Morales, DJ Afro (Los Amigos Invisible), Jose Padilla (Café Del Mar), Xantoné Blacq, Omar Lye-Fook, Cool Million, Leroy Burgess, Dimitri from Paris, Pete Herbert, Atjazz, Heidi Vogel, and Al Kent. He is also the songwriter and co-producer of Los Charly's Orchestra (LCO), The Boogie Man, Andre Espeut Quintet, Chennez & The Midnight Players. Laya is well known in the disco-funk scene in London, where he and his business partner and old friend, DJ Jorge Montiel, run their record label, Imagenes Recordings. His productions have been charting in the independent disco/funk/soul music scene for over a decade and are backed by some of the most influential names in the industry, from Todd Terje and Pete Tong to Craig Charles, Tom Moulton, Danny Krivit, Quinton Scott (Strut Records), Jim Stanton (Horse Meat Disco), Paul Miller, and Gilles Peterson.
