Liis Ring is a (sound) artist, musician, photographer and bird watcher based somewhere between the west coast of Sweden and southeast corner of Estonia. Her first solo album, Fables of a Faraway Land was released in late 2014 by Estonian indie label Õunaviks, summing up the material of her youthful, searching years in an eclectic mix of pop, folktronica and IDM. In 2016, Liis abandoned her pseudonym and self-released the EP Satori, her first step towards a more conceptual approach to music writing with a DIY attitude Åker (2018) followed in a similar vein. Her second LP Woolgathering (2019) was released by Õunaviks again, the meaning of which would be something like ‘letting the mind wander aimlessly’. This title nicely captures her approach to creating music: it resembles a long stroll across a changing landscape, where the spontaneity of an idea is more important than being fixed to a certain genre or style. The songs are recorded in as few takes as possible, left unpolished, in the same rooms where they first saw light, including field recordings as part of the arrangements. In April 2023 Liis released her 3rd full-length album Homing on Breton Cassette and Canigou Records. 'These evocative ambient compositions are dotted with quiet vocals & distant field recordings, making them feel like a cave in a deep woods,' Bandcamp's editors wrote when it was included in their New¬able column. Another LP called Vaikelu is due in August 2023.
