“MIKE D’ABO’s pop pedigree dates back to 1966, when he became lead singer with MANFRED MANN, replacing PAUL JONES, who wished to pursue a solo career. 7 top ten hits followed, including THE MIGHTY QUINN, which became the band’s 3rd No.1 record. His singing credentials continued when he was asked to sing ‘KING HEROD’S SONG’ on the original recording of ‘JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR’. However Mike found his greatest acclaim was to come as a songwriter. He composed ’BUILD ME UP BUTTERCUP’, a No. 1 hit for ‘THE FOUNDATIONS’ IN 1968, (which won him an IVOR NOVELLO Award) and wrote ‘HANDBAGS & GLADRAGS’, which ROD STEWART recorded on his 1st solo album ‘AN OLD RAINCOAT NEVER LETS YOU DOWN’ in 1969. This song was later revived by ‘THE STEREOPHONICS in 2000, reaching No. 4 in the UK charts. Mike also wrote a string of catchy TV jingles in the 70s, including the fondly remembered ‘CADBURY’S FINGER OF FUDGE’. Still actively songwriting, singing and performing, Mike first met dance record producer ADRIAN ZAGORITIS at a cricket match in 2014. They have worked together ever since. Their latest collaboration is called ‘REACH OUT FOR STARLIGHT’, in which Mike’s soulful vocals float beautifully over Adrian’s seductively crystal clear production. Who knows, maybe this latest release could this bring about a further revival in Mike’s long and illustrious career?“
