During the 60s Perth group The Valentines® were one of the most popular bands in Australia. They began as an energetic soul/R&B band and are synonymous with the “bubblegum pop” phenomenon. The Valentines® formed in mid-1966 from members of three leading local beat groups: Bon Scott and Wyn Milsom were from The Spektors. Vince Lovegrove, Ted Ward and John Cooksey were from The Winztons, and Warwick Findlay was from Ray Hoff & The Off Beats. Playing a mixture of soul, R&B and mod covers, by 1967 they were already Perth’s top group. A major drawcard was the double-vocal attack of dynamic front-men Bon Scott and Vince Lovegrove, and within a few weeks of their live debut they were packing in crowds. The Valentines® gained national fame after competing in the Hoadley's Battle of The Sounds and moving to Melbourne. The group recorded national charting hits such as 'My Old Man's a Groovy Old Man', Nick Nack Paddy Whack' and 'Juliette'. After a marijuana drug bust, the Valentines® dropped their Bubblegum personas and adopted a rock look. They split soon after, Bon immediately joining Fraternity®, Lovegrove becoming a music journalist in Adelaide working for Hamish Henry and Wyn Milsom a well known sound production engineer and designer. Today, the Valentines® are managed and are a trademarked property of The Grape Organisation Pty Ltd in cooperation with The Bon Scott & Vince Lovegrove Estates. www.thevalentinesband.com.au bonscottofficial.com
