DJ and producer David Zowie, a native of Kent, England, was indeed named after David Bowie. His performing surname is among the several Bowie-referencing middle names he was given -- Zowie also being the middle name of Bowie's son Duncan. (Curiously enough, his real surname, Batt, is the same as that of David Sylvian, whose early work was heavily inspired by Bowie.) Zowie's own music career, however, was not the least bit patterned after the Thin White Duke. He started making music electronically as a young teenager, bounced between dance music, reggae, and R&B, and he was also in a vocal group, but it wasn't until 2015 that he made a serious move. That's when he released "House Every Weekend," a club track that drew from the uplifting feel of certain early-'90s house music -- it even sampled a track from the Nervous label catalog -- and early-2000s bassline house. Eventually picked up by the Virgin label, the single went to number one on the U.K. pop chart in July 2015. The same year, Zowie remixed DJ Fresh & Adam F's "Believer" and Rita Ora's "Poison." ~ Andy Kellman
