Biography

Tai "Upgrade" Rotan is an American musician, composer, producer, visual designer, fashion mogul and social activist. A voting member of The Recording Academy for 10 years, Tai “Upgrade” Rotan has produced and globally distributed over 300 original instrumental compositions, 14 instrumental albums and 1 opera soundtrack via his independent TKRP Music Publishing company (BMI). Rotan's first major commercial music success came with production credits on “Can’t Sell Dope Forever,” an album released by Dead Prez & 2Pac Shakur's group, the Outlawz in 2006. The song “Came Up” featured Young Noble (Outlawz), Stic.man (Dead Prez), & Lazie Bone (Bone Thugs N Harmony). Since then, he has produced and distributed albums featuring the works of Grammy Award winning bassist Leonard "HUB" Nelson Hubbard (The ROOTS), Kanye West, NAS, 50 Cent, Grammy Award winning trumpet player Jimmy King (Bruno Mars / Hooligans / Silk Sonic), Phife Dawg /A Tribe Called Quest, Johnnie Harris (CAMEO bassist), and many more. Highly praised by early reviews and his #1 spot on the ReverbNation instrumental charts in Atlanta, Tai’s futuristic sound crosses many genres while still appealing to a wide audience – from New Age to EDM, Downtempo, Hip Hop, R&B, Techno and House. Multi-platinum producer Rico Wade (Dungeon Family / Organized Noize), known for his work with multi-platinum artists TLC, Outkast & Goodie Mob summed it up succinctly, Tai has captured the “sound of the future.”
