Coco Peila is a Hip Hop & Alt-R&B Afro Diaspora flex. Her work has been featured by The Kennedy Center, Stanford, Yale, The New Yorker, BUST Mag, the International Museum of Women, the Museum of African Diaspora, The Black Woman Is God, KQED Arts & Culture, NPR, on the radio, and on Hip Hop historian Davey D's 'Artists To Watch' list. As a songwriter, producer, songwriting coach, and MC she helps professional Hip Hop & R&B/Soul artists, especially Black women and girls, write bomb-ass, top-tier classics that transform society. Her collaborations with high-profile musicians and organizations fuse her expertise —as a multi-hyphenate Hip Hop artist, cultural organizer & strategist— and leverage the power of Hip Hop to make a social impact and leave an emotional legacy. While serving as Director of Hip Hop & Climate Justice at 'Youth Vs Apocalypse', she created the 'Hip Hop & Climate Justice' iniative and was selected to join Womens Earth Alliance's US Leaders cohort. In recent years she's taught as a guest professor and lecturer on Hip Hop Activism & Songwriting at San Francisco State University and UC Berkeley. She has performed at renowned venues and festivals including Teatro Nacional de Guatemala, The Hollywood Bowl, The San Francisco Opera House, Experience Music Project, Life Is Living, and Stern Grove, sharing stages with artists and leaders like Zion-I, Talib Kweli, The Pharcyde, Slum Village, Dead Prez, J Rocc, and President Obama to name a few.
