Biography

b. 8 May 1976, Dublin, Eire. As a child Kenevey heard jazz through the record collection of his pianist father, a session player. From the age of 12, he studied classical clarinet at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, where he played with the symphony orchestra. While studying geography and archaeology at university he played drums and sang in Milestone, a Dublin rock band, and was director and conductor of the University College Dublin (UCD) Concert Band. He extended his early interest in jazz, forming the UCD Jazz Ensemble. He worked as a software consultant but in 2001 became a full-time singer. Kenevey, whose influences include Mel Tormé, Mark Murphy, Kurt Elling and Al Jarreau, has toured Eire and the UK, playing clubs and festivals. The latter includes Cork Jazz Festival and those at Dubai and Marbella, Spain. Singing a pleasing blend of standards, jazz songs and some of his own compositions, Kenevey has attracted favourable attention. Kenevey's schedule for 2008 included appearing with the City Of Dublin Jazz Orchestra, at Eire's Electric Picnic summer music festival, and a tour of Germany.
