I was born in Évora, a land located in the interior of Portugal in a region called Alentejo; this makes me Alentejan in origin. This land has very strong cultural traditions, an example of which is the traditional Cante Alentejano, strongly influenced by Arab and pre-Roman music, possibly from the times when they populated the Iberian Peninsula. Today Cante is already recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity. It was in this environment that I started to become interested in music, first learning the piano as was my mother’s wish, and later clarinet, already as a conscious choice. I took part in many contests, which resulted in many defeats and few victories, but which taught me to work harder and to look at myself in a more reflective way. In 2015 I became Principal Soloist of the Classical Southern Orchestra, a small orchestra based in the south of Portugal, specifically Faro, with which I had been working since 2013. I am still a Professor at the Loulé Conservatory of Music, which allows me also to experience teaching the clarinet.
