Biography

qrauer is a German electronic music project spanning orchestral soundscapes, punchy minimal techno, inventive IDM and genre-defying collaborative creations. While ranging from glitchy orchestral drones and delicate lo fi piano to minimal grooves and moments of glorious, surprising complexity, qrauer hardly ever sacrifices danceability. It’s debut full length Odd Fazes (2022, Nonostar Records) has been hailed „an impressive first outing – the eight-track LP delights in the endless possibilities of electronics, displaying a variation of moods, ideas, analogue machine mastery and musicianship.” (Anna Wall, DJ MAG) or “an incredibly variable album leading us through different thrilling and previously untouched soundscapes.“ (Milan Trame, FAZE MAGAZINE). Its tracks have received airplay by Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC Radio 6, BBC Radio 3, BBC Ulster – Ireland, Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Dubmission on WYEP Pittsburgh, as well as Apple Music’s New in Electronics and Bandcamp’s New and Notable. Past collaborations include renowned cellist and composer Anne Müller (Erased Tapes). Whereas previous releases have been a collaborative effort between Christian Grochau and multi-instrumentalist and composer Ludwig Bauer, qrauer in 2023 has become the solo project of percussionist, producer and interdisciplinary artist Christian Grochau, who performs the music as an electronic liveset and also creates the accompanying artwork, visuals, and most of the music videos under the moniker Jonny Polka.
