DJ/Producer Charles Gatling was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. His love for music started at the early age of 9 with his father always playing various genres of music on his record player. Listening to New York radio stations with countless mix shows, Charles became interested in mixing music, and at the age of 16 Charles purchased his first set of turntables, two Technics, and a mixer. This was the beginning of his over 25 years of spinning records as a dj. Additionally, Charles had a deep passion for music production. Upon deciding to pursue his passion, Charles, along with John Crockett, formed the production team, Working Underneath LLC in 2000. Working Underneath was fortunate to have singles released and signed by: Siesta Music, Phuture Sole, Space Kat Records, and Gossip/UNDO Records. Later Working Underneath formed their own label, Haus’flor Records (Traxsource and Beatport), where they released future projects. Charles also collaborated with London’s Phil Hooton as Jersey Katz and released two songs on Phil’s label, Rapture Trax. Charles first solo EP, The Journey, was released on Cyberjamz Records which is on Traxsource.com. In 2015 Charles formed his own record label, RAW SUBSTANCE LLC, with the first single, “Get Deep”, being released in March 2017, the “Heritage” EP, released in June 2017, and future projects in the works.
