Biography

JPBraxton is a Music Producer, Composer, Musician, and Performer. A Bay Area native who brings his eclectic and refined taste, unique upbringing, and varied experiences to his musical palette. Braxton’s windy road to musical production has had many detours. His first instrument was an invisible flute he would pantomime alongside his mother's Prince records (See: “Lady Cab Driver”). He quickly turned-in his invisible instruments for an actual instrument, a trumpet. And, then next, like many producers cut from the hip hop cloth— he began a great appreciation for records. Music listening marathons often included Slick Rick, Miles Davis, Billy Ocean, and Herbie Hancock. Which lead Braxton to ‘cut his teeth’ recording and producing underground tapes on a Tascam Cassette 8-Track machine. He continues to bring an intimate, experimental, and home cooking aesthetic to his productions; while also remaining modern, and contemporary. Braxton’s sense of taste and style is the foundation of his music. With nods to classic Rhythm & Blues, and dissonant deconstruction to traditional forms (ala Jimi Hendrix), Braxton pushes boundaries and soundscapes. He is as influenced by Portishead as he is Chrome Sparks, or Nightmares On Wax.
